Madikeri: The District Development Coordination and Supervision Committee (DISHA) meeting, chaired by MP Yaduveer Wadiyar on Monday, held detailed discussions on scientific disposal of legacy waste, the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, control of wild animal menace and agricultural activities.At the meeting held at the zilla panchayat hall, the focus was on scientific disposal of legacy waste in Madikeri city. The MP directed the municipal commissioner to expedite and complete the waste management project.MLCs SL Bhojegowda and Suja Kushalappa urged officials to take necessary action and cautioned against offering excuses for delays. DISHA committee members Naveen Kumar, RK Chandru, Nagesh Kundalpadi and Kanti Satish also raised concerns over solid waste management.ZP CEO Anand Prakash Meena said emphasis has been laid on achieving 100% garbage disposal at the gram panchayat level.Engineer Jayakumar provided details of drinking water supply works under AMRUT 2.0 in Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Virajpet, Somwarpet and Ponnampet, stating that the Rs 45-crore project has achieved 70% progress and will be completed within the current financial year. Executive engineer Bhaskar briefed the committee on the Jal Jeevan Mission.Meanwhile, Yaduveer directed BSNL to set up towers in areas lacking connectivity and instructed revenue and forest department officials to allot land for the same. He also asked NABARD to submit a proposal for constructing a hostel under the backward classes welfare department.DCF (Madikeri) Abhishek said Rs 1.5 crore is required to install a 1-km rail barricade to prevent wild animals from entering forest fringe areas.
