Ahmedabad: Gujarat-based Mecpower Solutions on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat govt to establish a 5GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) assembly facility at Karjan with a proposed investment of around Rs 160 crore.The facility will manufacture battery energy storage systems and help strengthen the country’s energy storage capabilities, the company said.The project marks Mecpower’s expansion into energy storage manufacturing amid growing demand driven by the rapid adoption of renewable energy. According to the company, the unit will cater to utility-scale, commercial and industrial applications.Managing director Setul Shah said the investment underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its clean energy portfolio while boosting domestic manufacturing capacity.Battery energy storage systems enable electricity generated from renewable sources to be stored and supplied when required, helping improve grid reliability and stability. The company said the proposed project is aligned with Gujarat’s efforts to attract investments in clean energy manufacturing and will contribute to the state’s industrial growth.
