Man dies after e-rickshaw battery explodes

Nagpur: A 56-year-old man from Sitabuldi succumbed to burn injuries after the battery of his e-rickshaw exploded while being charged, police said.The deceased was identified as Gautam Nath Rawal, a resident of Ramu Patang Galli in Sitabuldi.According to police, the tragedy occurred on July 8 at around 3 am, when Rawal was charging the battery at his residence. The battery suddenly exploded, causing about 50% burns to his body. The victim was driving e-rickshaw for the past couple of years.Rawal was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Dhantoli. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on July 11 at 1.45 pm. His son, Kailash Rawal, 27, lodged a complaint at the Sitabuldi police station, leading to the registration of an accidental death case.A police officer from Sitabuldi police station said, “Preliminary inquiry suggests it was an accidental explosion during charging. No foul play is suspected at this stage.”The body was sent for post-mortem at Govt Medical College and Hospital, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause and quality of the battery involved.
