Kanpur: A 55-year-old cold storage employee died after his motorcycle plunged into a roadside ditch while he was on his way to work in Farrukhabad’s Mohammadabad area. Injured in the accident, he remained trapped in the ditch throughout the night with no one around to help. His body was discovered by a passer-by on Thursday morning, following which the police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem examination.The incident took place on Madgaon Road under the Mohammadabad police station area. According to police, Mahendra Singh (55), son of Rampal Singh and a resident of Hisampur village under Jahanganj police station limits, left home around 10 pm for his night shift at Sumangal Cold Storage.While travelling to work, his motorcycle reportedly fell into a ditch, leaving him seriously injured. As there was no one present at the spot, he remained unattended throughout the night.On Thursday morning, Awadhesh Singh Bhadauria, a resident of Gudgaon village, noticed the body lying in the ditch while walking towards a gas plant and informed the police by dialling 112.Police reached the spot, traced the registration number of the motorcycle to identify the victim and informed his family. The body was later identified by Mahendra’s brother, Pushpendra.Mahendra is survived by two sons and a daughter. He was the primary breadwinner of the family. Police have sent the body for postmortem examination and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
