Davanagere: A 70-year-old man died in a fire after allegedly discarding a lit beedi inside his hut, triggering the blaze. The incident occurred on Monday morning at Sringarabagu Tanda near Basavapatna in Channagiri taluk. The deceased has been identified as Rekyanayak. He sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately taken by locals to a govt hospital in nearby Basavapatna. However, he succumbed despite treatment. Police from Basavapatna station visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case. PSI Imtiyaz stated that the fire broke out after Rekyanayak threw a lit beedi inside the hut. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
