Locopilot dies in hit and run on Sadar flyover

Nagpur: A 51-year-old Central Railway loco pilot died after his motorcycle was allegedly hit by a white four-wheeler on Sadar flyover while he was heading to the DRM office for duty on Monday morning.The accident occurred when the deceased, Indrajit Sarkar, was coming from Old Katol Naka Road to Samvidhan Chowk around 8 am, according to the FIR lodged at Sadar police station.Sarkar’s colleague Paritosh Kumar was returning home after night duty at Electric Loco Shed, Ajni, when he noticed a crowd on the flyover around 8:15 am. Kumar got out of his car and identified the injured man as Sarkar, who had suffered a severe head injury. Despite attempts to revive him, he remained unconscious, said Kumar.People at the spot allegedly told Kumar that a white four-wheeler had hit Sarkar’s motorcycle before fleeing towards the Cantonment area. Kumar, with the help of others at the spot, shifted Sarkar to his car and rushed him to a private hospital at Mankapur checkpost.As per the FIR, doctors declared Sarkar dead before treatment could begin. Kumar informed Sarkar’s office and colleagues about the incident. Sarkar’s wife, son Shaunik and other relatives later reached the hospital.Police registered a case of hit-and-run based on the complaint. Investigators are trying to trace the driver of the white four-wheeler and establish the sequence of events leading to the fatal accident.
