Mysuru: If you are travelling and worried about the safety of your locked homes, relax, Mysuru police have come up with a solution to ensure the safety of locked homes by launching the Locked House Beat System (LHBS) and a dedicated WhatsApp number – 8277954000.Superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi said the system aims to prevent day and night house break-ins as jurisdiction police will be informed about the absence of owners so that they can increase patrolling and keep a watch over homes.Owners have to send a message to the above WhatsApp number and fill in details in Google Forms, which include information of owners, the date from which the house would be locked, the Google location of the house and a photo of the house so that police can accurately identify the locked home. A separate cell has been set up to monitor LHBS.The SP said as burglars have started targeting peri-urban and village homes, the initiative was launched as a precaution to prevent house break-ins.Drug-free KarnatakaDistrict police have appealed to the public to inform police about any illegal activity related to the NDPS Act by logging on to the KSP mobile application. The public can inform police about the sale, consumption or manufacture of all kinds of drugs in their neighbourhood through this mobile application. The identity of informers will be kept secret.155 constable posts vacantMysuru district police are facing a shortage of about 155 constables across various police stations. An average of five to six constable posts are vacant, the SP informed. There are about 26 police stations in Mysuru district.Extortion: Youth arrestedAfter vendors and loaders of the APMC market in Bandipalya complained about extortion and regular hafta collection by a youth of Kailaspuram, Mysuru police arrested him on extortion charges. He has been remanded to judicial custody. Police have appealed to workers to inform them about any such criminal or illegal activity.
