Liquor worth Rs 59L seized in Vinchhiya, four booked

Rajkot: Vinchhiya police in Rajkot district seized Indian-made foreign liquor, beer and two trucks, total worth Rs 1.1 crore, during a raid near Mota Hadmatiya village on Saturday. Four persons, including the alleged kingpin Uday Khachar, were booked under the Gujarat Prohibition Act.According to police, the raid was conducted after officers received a tip-off that Khachar was unloading and redistributing a consignment of foreign liquor near govt wasteland on the outskirts of Mota Hadmatiya village. A Vinchhiya police team carried out the early morning operation on July 11.Rajkot SP Vijaysinh Gurjar told TOI that by the time the police reached the spot, the accused had fled under the cover of darkness. However, officers found two abandoned trucks loaded with sealed cartons of liquor and beer marked “For Sale in Punjab.”Police seized 868 boxes containing 28,932 bottles of various brands. The liquor and beer were valued at Rs 59.5 lakh, while the two trucks were estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh, taking the total value of the seizure to Rs 1.09Based on the findings, ASI Dilip Malkiya of Vinchhiya police station registered an FIR under various sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act against four accused, including Khachar, who allegedly arranged the consignment, and the person who dispatched it.Police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused and are investigating the source of the liquor, the supply network involved and the intended destinations of the consignment within Gujarat.
