Koppal: A leopard that had been spotted near Kasanakandi village close to Munirabad for the past few days was captured in a cage installed by the forest department on Thursday. The big cat, estimated to be around two years old, was safely rescued by forest personnel and subjected to a medical examination before being shifted to Kamalapur zoo in Vijayanagara. The leopard’s movement had triggered panic among staff and families of the nearby IRB and KSRP training centres, as well as residents of surrounding villages. Forest officials had installed the trap immediately after receiving information about the animal’s presence and kept the area under continuous surveillance. The operation concluded successfully with the leopard being captured without incident.
