Times News NetworkKanpur: Body of a woman, who had come to her in-laws’ home with her Army personnel husband five days earlier, was found hanging from a noose in Dandamau village under Bighapur Kotwali area in Unnao district.Upon learning of this, her husband, a subedar, posted in the Army Medical Corps at Panagarh in Kolkata, also committed suicide. The two deaths together have plunged the family into mourning.Shailendra Pandey (40) is posted at the rank of Subedar in the Army. About 12 years ago, he was married to Sadhna (38), a resident of Kanpur. Just six months after the marriage, he took his wife along with him. Shailendra’s elder brother Manoj Pandey said that there is a cousin’s wedding in the family on June 27.“Five days ago, Shailendra had left his wife here and said he would extend his leave and return soon, but Sadhna was not ready for this. Angered by this, she committed suicide by hanging from a noose on Tuesday night. Upon learning of this, Shailendra too committed suicide at his duty location,” he said.The two deaths together caused an uproar. Shailendra’s family members have left for Kolkata to collect his body. Meanwhile, the deceased woman’s brother Anuj Mishra, a resident of Kanpur, has accused the in-laws of murdering his sister. The police conducted an investigation.The in-laws however said that even six months after the marriage, Sadhna had attempted suicide by consuming poison. The body has been sent for postmortem examination. The couple have two children– Yatharth and Shanvi.Inspector Kotwali police station Arvind Singh said that as per the family members, the woman and her husband both have committed suicide. The woman’s body has been sent for postmortem examination. “Further action will be taken on the basis of the complaint,” he added.
