BENGALURU: A late-night drive in a Mercedes-Benz SUV ended in tragedy near Hoskote after the vehicle crashed into a divider on the Satellite Town Ring Road shortly after Friday midnight, killing two occupants.Car dealer Rizwan, 30, who was driving the SUV, was thrown out of the vehicle and fell into a water-filled area below the bridge, while his companion, Saajiya, died on the spot. The second-hand SUV belonged to one of Rizwan’s clients,said cops.Solar-powered CCTV cams on STRR weren’t functioning: CopPolice said Rizwan, a usedcar dealer, picked up his friend Saajiya, 23, a resident of Kammanahalli, and drove towards Devanahalli for a latenight dinner. The duo was returning towards Hoskote when near Doddahullur, 1km from BengaluruChennai Expressway, Rizwan reportedly lost control over the luxury SUV and slammed into the road divider with huge force. Police said the vehicle belonged to one of Rizwan’s clients, who had handed it over to him for resale.Rescue teams and police launched a search operation, but were unable to recover Rizwan’s body due to darkness. His body was recovered Saturday morning with the help of fire and emergency services personnel.A case has been registered against Rizwan. Police said he was married and is survived by wife and children. Saajiya was a parttime employee at a private firm. Police suspect speeding and reckless driving as the primary causes of the crash. CCTV cameras on STRR were not functioning at the time of incide nt, an officer said.
