A Kolkata-based man alleged that a Zomato delivery partner falsely marked an order as delivered before taking the food for himself. According to the now-viral post, a nearby CCTV camera recorded the entire incident and the customer was able to lodge a complaint with the food delivery company.

The customer, named Sumit Chakraborty, shared a video from a home security camera that he says contradicts the delivery proof submitted through Zomato. According to the footage, the incident occurred on June 20 at around 10:40 PM, when the delivery partner marked the order as “delivered” by uploading a photo showing it had been left at the customer’s gate.

The Delivery Guys Walk Away With The Parcel

As seen in the clip, the delivery guy arrived at the location and placed an order, packed in a white plastic bag, at the entrance of a building. Then he took a few steps back to click a clear picture of the package placed at the door.

He uploaded pictures and marked the order as delivered in the app. Once done, he then picked up the package and left the premises.

Following the incident, the customer submitted video evidence and demanded a full investigation, a full refund, and strict action, including delivery, for such wrongdoing.

“Should Be Punished”

The incident has sparked discussion on social media, with several users sharing similar experiences, while others called for stronger verification mechanisms on the platform to avoid such incidents.

“A new fraud is running by @zomatocare. I ordered food, the delivery guy picked up my food from the restaurant and called in the middle of nowhere asking to cancel order as he had no petrol in bike. I told him if I cancel, I will be charged. Even he stopped picking calls from Zomato Care,” one user said.

A person shared, “Happened 2 weeks back with Swiggy, my bad luck that I didn’t have a CCTV! They got away with it.”

“I had a similar experience with @zomato 2 weeks ago. The delivery partner stopped for 15 minutes 1 km away from my home and hasn’t delivered the order. Thankfully, Zomato folks refunded full amount, but had to wait for another 30 minutes for the food to arrive, which I ordered on @Swiggy,” an individual revealed.

“People always find loopholes and try to oversmart. But, with technology so developed, these tricks are failing. He shouldn’t have played with food,” remarked someone else.

“@zomato start generating otp’s for customers, which must be needed at the time of delivery, to complete the delivery process by the agent to avoid these problems,” one person suggested.

Meanwhile, a different individual said, “What bad luck for that guy, he did not try to steal something for worthy to take such a risk. Anyway, should be punished.”
