Belagavi: The state Cabinet has granted administrative approval for a Rs 30-crore theme park in the historic Kittur Fort precinct, giving a major push to efforts to preserve and showcase the legacy of Rani Chennamma through modern technology.The project, to be executed by the Kittur Development Authority, will spotlight the history of the erstwhile Kittur kingdom, Rani Chennamma’s life and bravery, and the region’s resistance to British rule. Work is expected to commence once the necessary administrative procedures are completed.The park aims to present Kittur’s rich history in an engaging, contemporary format while strengthening the town’s position on Karnataka’s tourism map.Kittur MLA Babasaheb Patil said visitors would be able to access detailed information about Rani Chennamma, the Kittur province and its fight against British rule by scanning QR codes on their mobile phones. Digital installations will further help visitors explore key historical events and understand Kittur’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle.Congress leader Ashfaq Hawaldar welcomed the Cabinet nod, calling it a landmark initiative that would boost Kittur’s profile as a heritage tourism destination.The proposed park will feature an art gallery, landscaped gardens, flower parks, fountains, sculptures, statues, food courts and other visitor amenities. It will also display Kittur Fort ruins, museum exhibits, weapons linked to Rani Chennamma’s battles, traditional attire, historical artefacts and information on the region’s heritage.Local leaders said the project could emerge as a major heritage attraction by offering visitors an immersive blend of history, culture and technology.
