Kageri inaugurates passenger amenities at railway stations in Uttara Kannada

Uttara Kannada Member of Parliament (MP) Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri inaugurated newly developed passenger amenities at Kumta, Gokarna Road, Murdeshwar and Bhatkal stations. He also flagged off the extension of Train No. 12790/12789 Kacheguda–Murdeshwar–Kacheguda Bi-weekly Express up to Kumta station, at Kumta, on Saturday.

The newly inaugurated facilities include the upgradation of Platform No. 2 at Kumta station from rail level to high level, upgradation of Platform No. 1 at Gokarna Road station from middle level to high level, construction of a new bio-toilet facility at Murdeshwar station, and extension of Platform No. 2 at Bhatkal station.

The extension of Train No. 12790/12789 up to Kumta is expected to significantly improve rail connectivity between Karnataka and Telangana. The extended service will provide passengers from Kumta and nearby areas with direct connectivity to important destinations, facilitating easier travel for commuters, students, tourists, business travellers and residents.

The initiative is expected to strengthen regional mobility and support economic and tourism activities in the region, said a Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) release.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kageri highlighted the importance of continuous infrastructure development and enhanced railway services for the benefit of passengers.

Chairman and Managing Director of KRCL Santosh Kumar Jha reiterated Konkan Railway’s commitment to modernising passenger amenities, improving operational efficiency and strengthening connectivity across the Konkan region in line with the vision of Indian Railways.
