Infrastructure is not merely the bedrock of development, but development itself, said M. Jamshed during a special address at The Hindu’s Maharashtra Infrastructure Conclave 2026 held in Mumbai on Friday (May 22, 2026).

Speaking on India’s infrastructure growth trajectory over the last decade, Mr. Jamshed described Maharashtra as a “lighthouse” for infrastructure development from Delhi’s perspective and expressed hope that the State would continue to retain that position.

He said the Centre’s infrastructure push since 2014 had moved beyond a traditional focus on transport and energy towards a more integrated approach encompassing physical, digital and social infrastructure.

Mr. Jamshed said core sectors such as roads, railways, maritime transport, civil aviation and energy, along with digital infrastructure and social infrastructure segments including rural drinking water, sanitation and water resource management, together formed the key drivers of India’s economic growth trajectory.
