INDIA Bloc Meet Live Updates: The INDIA bloc meeting today is expected to bring together leaders from around 23 opposition parties in Delhi as the alliance discusses its strategy following recent Assembly election setbacks faced by several regional partners.

The gathering, being referred to as the “Janbandhan” meeting, comes amid questions over the future direction of the opposition alliance and its preparations for upcoming state elections and the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.

Several issues are expected to dominate discussions, including coordination among alliance partners and efforts to address differences within the grouping.

Will DMK participate?

The meeting has generated interest over which parties will attend and what role key regional players will play in future alliance decisions.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already publicly distanced itself from the bloc. Meanwhile, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) earlier announced that it would boycott the meeting after the Congress ended ties with it in Tamil Nadu and joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government.

Questions have also been raised about whether the TVK could eventually be included in the alliance framework.

Top leaders expected in Delhi today

According to information available ahead of the INDIA bloc leaders meeting, senior opposition figures are likely to attend the event at the Constitution Club.

Among those expected are Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.

Leaders from Left parties and several smaller regional parties are also likely to participate.

Focus on 2029 strategy?

The opposition alliance meeting is expected to focus on strengthening coordination against the BJP ahead of upcoming electoral contests. Leaders are likely to discuss plans for state elections as well as preparations for the 2029 Lok Sabha election.

The last official meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) took place in New Delhi on June 1, 2024, shortly before the Lok Sabha elections. Following that, nearly 50 alliance leaders held discussions on allegations of electoral manipulation. Separate consultations were also conducted ahead of Parliament sessions.

As the INDIA Bloc meeting begins in Delhi, attention will remain on the participation of key parties and the alliance’s roadmap for the coming years.
