GUWAHATI: The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across parts of Assam and neighbouring states over the next three days, prompting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to issue a public advisory.Following the forecast, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has appealed to residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.According to the IMD, several districts in Arunachal Pradesh, including East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley, are expected to receive heavy rainfall. The weather is also likely to affect the adjoining Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.An orange alert has been issued for Tinsukia district. Similar alerts are also in place for Mon, Mokokchung and Wokha districts of Nagaland, with the neighbouring Assam districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat also likely to be affected.The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall of 6-11 cm a day across East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley. Papumpare district is likely to receive very heavy rainfall of 12-20 cm at isolated places, which may also affect nearby areas of Assam.Authorities have warned that the expected rainfall could worsen waterlogging, flooding and flash floods, disrupt traffic and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable areas.District administrations and the ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation, and emergency response systems have been kept on alert.The ASDMA has advised people in the affected districts to remain vigilant and follow safety precautions. Daily commuters and long-distance travellers have been asked to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid unnecessary travel during spells of heavy rainfall.Residents living in low-lying and hilly areas have also been advised to stay alert for signs of flooding or landslides.The authority said weather updates will be available on the official ASDMA website and its social media platforms. It has urged the public to follow official weather advisories and instructions issued by the authorities.
