Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar held a meeting with Ganesh idol makers on Thursday and advised them to limit the height of idols to 16 feet to ensure that the upcoming Ganesh Festival is celebrated in a peaceful and eco-friendly manner.Following a recent meeting with Bhagya Nagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, Sajjanar called a meeting with idol makers. During the meeting, he emphasised the importance of taking proactive safety measures from the installation of idols to processions and the final immersion.“Last year, nearly 23,000 idols were installed under the Hyderabad police commissionerate limits, and four mishaps occurred during their transportation. In line with discussions held with Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, the maximum height of idols should be restricted to 16 feet,” Sajjanar said.The commissioner urged idol makers to fulfil their social responsibility by encouraging the use of clay idols and smaller idols that can be easily immersed. “Ensure that proper fire safety measures are in place at workshops. Dedicated entry and exit routes are being designated for the safe movement of idols from major manufacturing hubs like Dhoolpet, Jalpally, and Mailardevpally into the city,” Sajjanar said.He advised against transporting massive idols during peak traffic hours and instructed transporters to inform local traffic police in advance to obtain clearance.
