sJaipur: An investigation into a rape case registered at Sanganer Sadar police station in the city has led to the arrest of a man and a woman on charges of allegedly orchestrating a honeytrap and extortion racket in what officials describe as part of a broader crackdown on false criminal complaints in the city.The accused has been identified as Ravi Kumar Tank (30).DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said that the pair lured a man with promises of accommodation and employment before trapping him in a blackmail scheme and filing a false rape case against him.The accused alleged that he was lured into a compromising situation, after which objectionable videos were recorded and used to extort money from him.Using technical evidence and field verification, investigators reconstructed the movements and interactions of those involved and concluded that the rape allegation was false.Police said the probe also revealed that the woman had received Rs 5,000 online from the complainant during the incident.Investigators alleged that the victim was called to Sanganer and taken to a house where objectionable videos were recorded. He was then allegedly confined and threatened while the accused attempted to extract money from him and his family.Police said the victim was allegedly held captive as the accused waited for payment and was later taken to an isolated location where further demands for cash were made to his relatives.During preliminary interrogation Tank and the woman allegedly admitted to targeting the victim after assessing his financial condition, police said.Investigators have also found that Tank was previously named in a criminal case registered at Harmada police station.Varma said investigations found 654 cases to be false between Jan 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.Police have already approached courts seeking action against complainants in 86 cases under Sections 217 and 248 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while proceedings in the remaining cases are underway.The scale of the issue is particularly visible in cases involving crimes against women. According to police data, 1,133 such cases were registered in Jaipur South between Jan 1, 2025 and May 30, 2026. Of these, 247 were found to be false and legal proceedings are being initiated against the complainants.
