Hazaribag trader crushed to death by unidentified vehicle in Chatra

Chatra: A 40-year-old man was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Chatra on Thursday. The incident took place in Sanghri Valley. The deceased, identified as Mahendra Prasad Mahto, was a resident of Shivadi village under Barkagaon block of Hazaribag district.Mahto earned his livelihood collecting leftover coal dumped by NTPC in Barkagaon and selling it in Chatra. He was headed to Chatra on his motorcycle carrying bags of coal when his two-wheeler was run over by a heavy vehicle. Mahto was killed on the spot, and his body was mutilated. The vehicle fled the spot after the incident.

Awadhesh Kumar Singh, the officer-in-charge of Chatra Sadar police station, said Mahto’s body was sent to sadar hospital for postmortem examination. “Search is on for the driver and the vehicle,” he said.
