A video comparing the colour of the sky in India and the United States has gone viral on social media, which has now triggered a debate about pollution in the country, with some arguing that mountains and beach areas have better sky colour than most tier-1 cities.

The clip began with footage recorded from inside a vehicle on a busy road in India. Notably, the exact location was not mentioned. The sky in the video appeared pale and hazy. A text over it read: “Pehle sochta tha ki India se bahar sky blue dikhta hoga (I used to think the sky would look bluer outside India.”

The video then cuts to a scenic view from the United States, showing a deep blue, clear sky stretching over a roadside landscape. The footage was filmed on a road in San Diego, California. The text overlaying the clip then changes to “Sahi sochta tha (I was right).”

“You Need To See Uttarakhand And Himachal”

The comparison has now caught the attention of social media users, with many agreeing that cleaner air in the US can make the sky appear more vivid. Others, however, argued that the comparison was unfair and lacked context.

“We as a country need 50 more years to achieve all that. The countries which these guys show are totally different from ours in terms of past, duration of independence, population, location, natural resources and everything. We will have it too, just a Little longer,” said a person.

“It’s so sad that we don’t get to breathe fresh air or see a clear sky. Even sadder is that we are clueless that it exists somewhere,” mentioned another user.

“Yeah, brother, only in India, you could see brownie sky and in Delhi for sure. I never seen a clear sky in Delhi. Nowadays, because of summer, you could see some blue sky,” commented someone else.

“Idk what type of slums u yall are living in. I know a lot of cities in India have AQI issue but its season mostly Oct-Jan,” said a person, along with sharing a photo of a blue sky from inside a building.

Another individual posted a picture of a blue sky in a mountain region, saying, “Habibi, come to the NE of India. This was taken a few weeks ago, before the heavy rains started.”

“Well, then you need to see Uttarakhand and Himachal, you will love it. Places are not hell. It’s ppl who make that heaven a hell, quipped one user.

“Comparing a densely populated city area with a mountainous region is not a fair comparison. Kya logic hai bhai. Bhai Maharashtra aa jao tumko full clean sky dikhata hu,” said an individual.

Meanwhile, one remarked, “Indians ko development bhi chahiye aur pollution bhi nahi chahiye. These Western countries also went through this phase during the Industrial Revolution. But we wouldn’t talk about that.”
