Gurgaon Police ask offices to allow 'work from home' as heavy rain floods roads again
Heavy overnight rain caused severe traffic congestion on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway

GURGAON: Heavy overnight rain in Delhi and Gurgaon brought traffic to a standstill on Thursday morning, leaving thousands of office-goers stranded in long queues during peak hours. The Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic on both carriageways as waterlogging at multiple stretches reduced vehicular movement to a crawl. Commuters spent hours navigating the congested corridor, with traffic backing up from the Delhi border towards Gurgaon as well as on the Delhi-bound carriageway. The situation worsened after a few vehicles broke down on the Delhi stretch of the expressway during the morning rush, further disrupting traffic flow. Long tailbacks were reported at several locations as motorists struggled through waterlogged roads and slow-moving traffic. In view of the incessant rain and the likelihood of widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion, Gurgaon Police issued an advisory urging corporate offices and private establishments to allow employees to work from home on Thursday. The police said reducing the number of vehicles on the roads would help ease congestion, improve traffic management and ensure the smooth movement of emergency services.Heavy rain since Wednesday night also disrupted traffic on several arterial roads across Delhi and Gurgaon, with waterlogging and poor visibility adding to commuters’ woes. Traffic authorities urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance, avoid waterlogged stretches where possible, and follow traffic advisories as rainfall continued through the morning.
