A 30-year-old man in Gujarat allegedly killed his 39-year-old widowed girlfriend after suspecting her of being involved with another person, police said.

The victim, identified as Manisha, was found dead near a garbage dumping site close to the historic Songadh Fort in Tapi district. Police swung into action and arrested the accused, Mahesh Gamit, within hours of the discovery of the body.

According to investigators, Manisha, a native of Ahmedabad, had been living with her aunt in Songadh. She was in a relationship with Gamit.

The couple had been in a relationship for some time, but Mahesh had recently become suspicious that Manisha was involved with another man. This is believed to have led to frequent disputes between the two.

On the day of the incident, Gamit allegedly called Manisha to meet him at a dumping site near Songadh Fort. During the meeting, an argument broke out between them. In a fit of rage, he allegedly strangled her before fleeing the scene.

The woman’s body was later found on a dumping site near the fort, prompting a police investigation. Considering the seriousness of the case, police formed multiple teams, including personnel from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Special Operations Group (SOG), to trace the suspect.

During the investigation, police learned about the victim’s relationship with Gamit and subsequently detained him for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed the sequence of events leading to the murder.

Police said the accused has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Manisha’s first husband, Ketanbhai, died several years ago. She is survived by her two children, a 20-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter, who live in Ahmedabad.
