Gauree.Malkarnekar@timesofindia.comPanaji: After rolling out textbooks aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) up to Class VIII, the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is in the process of developing the textbooks from Class IX to XI. As all these textbooks are expected to be out during the next academic year 2027-28, the Goa board of secondary and higher secondary education is already ready with a plan for the implementation.Board chairperson Bhagirath Shetye said that it would adopt the new textbooks as is for certain subjects like English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and Hindi, during the first year.Shetye said that the board plans to continue with the history and geography textbooks which are in force at present, as these textbooks have recently been updated by the Goa board with local content.“For 2026-27, we will continue with the same textbooks from Class IX to XII. When the new NCERT textbooks come, we can adopt them as they are in the main subjects like English, mathematics, science. In the case of Hindi, we will see how it goes during the first year and then take a call on whether it needs to be revised as per local requirements. Once they are implemented, we will take a call on whether any local content needs to be added,” said Shetye. He said that this is as per the prevailing standards. Goa board has implemented the existing NCERT textbooks for English, mathematics, science, economics, psychology, and there are only local books for some subjects like accountancy and secretarial practice. In March, NCERT outlined a detailed roadmap for the introduction of fresh school textbooks as per the NEP 2020.
