Gen Alpha students in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district have been protesting the transfer of a teacher at the High School. The agitation, which has continued for the past three days, intensified on Thursday after a confrontation between students and Kandi block chief Pinku Pandey.
The students and other protesters became angry after the transfer of teacher Malay Singh. The agitation has spread from the district collectorate to the Kandi block, with students demanding that the teacher’s transfer be stopped.
The protest turned violent when Pinku Pandey reached the spot to speak to the students who were blocking the road. During the confrontation, Pandey slapped one of the students.
The incident further angered the protesters, who then allegedly damaged Pandey’s vehicle. Pandey fled the spot and took shelter at the police station. The students also reached the police station following the incident.
The students remain firm on their demand to stop the teacher’s transfer. They are also demanding action against those involved in the incident and have continued to block the road.
A sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) said the police had received information about the incident and had informed senior officials. Additional police personnel were being sent to the spot, and efforts were underway to persuade the students to end the protest.
