Nagpur: An old gang rivalry culminated in the murder of a youth at Manewada Ghat on Saturday around 5pm. The deceased was identified as Pawan Suryavanshi, while his associate, Aman Kale, sustained serious injuries in the attack. Investigators believe the accused hatched a plot to eliminate Pawan weeks ago and trapped him through an Instagram friendship cultivated over the past two months.Hudkeshwar police and Crime Branch teams launched a manhunt for 10 accused named in the FIR, including Kaka alias Aman Chaurasiya (20), Ajay Chaurasiya, Yash Saude, Piyush Baghel, all residents of Gyaneshwarnagar, Vedant Kapte of Mahakal Nagar, Naidu, Raunak Raut and others.

According to police, the accused are members of a splinter group of Maya Gang.Police said the feud stemmed from a dispute in April between Pawan and Kaka. The rivalry escalated after Pawan, along with Aman and Ajay Solanki, allegedly attacked Kaka with a knife, leading to a case being registered at Ajni police station.Investigators said Kaka, along with Vedant and other associates, subsequently plotted to target Pawan. Unable to approach him directly, they allegedly used Vedant, who sent Pawan a friend request on Instagram two months ago. Pawan accepted it and the two began chatting regularly, allowing Vedant to gain his trust.On Saturday, Vedant allegedly contacted Pawan and offered to mediate with Kaka. Believing the meeting was aimed at reconciliation, Pawan, accompanied by Aman Kale, Ajay Kale and Ajay Solanki, reached Manewada Ghat.Members of Kaka’s group, who were already present at the crematorium, surrounded them soon after they arrived, police said. A heated argument broke out, and the confrontation quickly turned violent. According to investigators, one assailant struck Pawan on the head with a stone before the group launched an attack with sharp weapons. Pawan was chased down and killed, while Aman Kale was also assaulted and injured. Ajay Kale and Ajay Solanki managed to escape. Aman Kale is undergoing treatment.Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil and additional commissioners Navinchandra Reddy and Rajendra Dabhade visited the spot. Senior officers are closely monitoring the investigation. Teams are analysing call detail records and social media evidence, while efforts are underway to trace the accused and recover the weapons used in the crime.
