Four boys, below the age of 11 years, allegedly drowned in a pond at Malu Gajapura village in Panchmahal district’s Goghamba taluka on Tuesday after venturing into the deep part of the water body while swimming.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Baria (10), Rahul Baria (11), Purshottam Baria (9), Ankit Baria (11). Their bodies were retrieved from the pond on Tuesday by local swimmers.
According to the district police, the incident occurred early Tuesday when the four decided to go for a swim in the pond.
“Two of the four ventured into the pond and were caught in the deep part. As they called out for help, the two others jumped in to rescue them. However, all the four boys drowned,” said a police officer.
The district police said that the bodies were sent for postmortem before being handed over to their parents.
