The focus should now shift towards the sustainable development of infrastructure in the South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) and comprehensive welfare of its workforce, said Chalasani Gandhi, convenor of the SCoR Sadhana Porata Samiti on Wednesday.

Mr. Gandhi welcomed South Coast Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) general secretary Ch. Sankara Rao and president G.N. Srinivasa Rao to the city. He called for concerted efforts from railway officials, employees, and public representatives to develop the new headquarters into one of the country’s best railway zones.

Stressing the need for immediate action, Mr. Gandhi advocated the need for expanding railway infrastructure and timely completion of pending projects. He said that the zonal headquarters should be equipped with world-class administrative and technical facilities to achieve operational excellence.

On the human resource front, Mr. Gandhi highlighted the need for staff recruitment, creation of additional posts to ease workload, and the implementation of transparent transfer and promotion policies. He also called for enhanced healthcare, housing, and recreational amenities for employees, alongside specific safety measures for women staff.

“Just as we fought unitedly for the establishment of the railway zone, we must now work together for its growth,” he said, urging cordial management-employee relations and the prioritisation of employee-friendly recommendations under the Eighth Pay Commission to boost productivity.
