Five feared drowned in Tungabhadra at Mantralayam of A.P.

Five persons were feared to have drowned in the Tungabhadra river at Mantralayam on Saturday.

According to the police, a group of ten members, all relatives, visited Mantralayam to attend a family function and perform a ritual. After the ritual, six members of the group entered the river for a swim.

They misjudged the depth of the water and drowned. With the relatives raising an alarm, the police rushed to the spot. A rescue operation was launched with the help of expert swimmers and fishermen. The rescue efforts continued till late Saturday night.

Those who went missing have been identified as Satish and Yuvan Chandra from Hyderabad, Raghavendra and Dhanu from Mantralayam, and Sandhya from Uravakonda in Anantapur district.

According to the police, Aparna from Adoni managed to come out of the water.
