Kanpur: In a move aimed at protecting aquatic biodiversity during the breeding season, the district administration has declared all rivers and flowing water bodies in Kanpur as “No Fishing Zones” from June 1 to August 31, 2026.The order, issued by DM Jitendra Pratap Singh, prohibits fishing as well as the installation of enclosures or barricades in any river or flowing watercourse during the three-month restriction period. The measure is intended to safeguard fish populations during their breeding cycle and ensure the conservation of fishery resources.The District Magistrate has directed officials to ensure strict enforcement of the ban. The Fisheries Department has been tasked with monitoring compliance and taking necessary action against violators.Jitendra Kumar, assistant director of fisheries (Kanpur Nagar), appealed to members of fisheries cooperative societies and residents to support the conservation drive by adhering to the restrictions. He said sustainable conservation of water resources and fish stocks can only be achieved through active public participation and cooperation.Officials said the annual ban is crucial for maintaining ecological balance and allowing fish populations to replenish naturally during the spawning season.
