Fertiliser worth Rs24 lakh seized from ‘illegal’ unit

Yavatmal: Fertilisers worth Rs24.7 lakh were seized during a late-night raid conducted by the agriculture department on an alleged unauthorised manufacturing unit in the Bhoyar MIDC area near Yavatmal on Friday night. The operation also led to the registration of a criminal case against three individuals, including the factory owner.The action was carried out by a joint team from the Agriculture Commissionerate, Pune, the Divisional Joint Director of Agriculture Office, Amravati, and the Yavatmal District Agriculture Department.During investigation, officials found that the unit had no licence for establishing a fertilizer manufacturing and storage facility.The team seized 2,151 bags of unauthorized fertilizer stock weighing 107.55 metric tonnes. Based on a complaint lodged by Sanjay Anant Pawar, fertilizer inspector and agriculture officer of Yavatmal Panchayat Samiti, the Lohara/MIDC police registered an FIR against under provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985.Rohit Chaudhary, station house officer, Lohara police station, said police have launched an investigation to determine the extent of the illegal operations and whether similar activities were being conducted elsewhere.
