Patna: A 45-year-old farmer was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants while sleeping outside his house at Pachpaika village under Ujiarpur police station area of Samastipur district early on Monday. Police suspect the murder may be linked to testimony he gave in a village love-affair case last yearThe deceased, Raj Narayan Singh, was unmarried and primarily engaged in farming and household work. His brother, Tej Narayan Singh, said Raj Narayan often spoke out against wrongdoing during village panchayats, which had earned him several rivals.Family members alleged that Raj Narayan was targeted for testifying in a relationship-related case last year, which led to the imprisonment of members of the opposing side.Police said Singh usually slept outside the main entrance of his house. CCTV footage showed two men on a motorcycle fleeing the area around 3am, prompting investigators to suspect their involvement in the killing.Dalsinghsarai SDPO Vivek Kumar Sharma said, “Police are probing all possible motives. It is suspected that he may have been killed for giving testimony in a case. The matter is under investigation and the case will be cracked soon.”
