Fans seek to name Bogadi Road in Mysuru after S. Janaki

An emotional appeal has emerged from the admirers of legendary playback singer S. Janaki to name the Mysuru-Gaddige Road (Bogadi Road) in Mysuru, where she spent the final years of her life, in her honour.

The appeal has been spearheaded by her ardent admirer, Naveen Kumar, in whose farmhouse on Bogadi Road, on the city’s outskirts, the celebrated singer had been living for the past few years. Though millions admired her across the country for her remarkable career spanning more than 20 languages, few knew that she had quietly made Mysuru her home, choosing to spend her twilight years amidst nature and away from the public eye.

S. Janaki developed a close bond with Naveen Kumar and his family, who cared for her like one of their own. Her public appearances in Mysuru were rare, but her presence in the city was a matter of pride for music lovers, who cherished the fact that the legendary singer had chosen Mysuru as her place of residence.

Making an emotional appeal to the State government, Naveen Kumar urged it to rename the Mysuru-Gaddige Road in memory of the iconic singer.

“I humbly request the State government to consider the appeal and name the road after the late singer. It will be a fitting tribute to her enduring legacy,” he told reporters.

Supporting the demand, G. T. Deve Gowda, the MLA representing the Chamundeshwari constituency where the farmhouse is located, assured that he would take up the matter with the State government and make every effort to fulfil the fans’ request.

Naveen Kumar, who owns a furniture showroom on Bogadi Road named after S. Janaki, looked after the late singer.

It was also her heartfelt wish that her last rites be performed at the farmhouse where she had spent her final years. Honouring her last wish, her family decided to conduct her final rites at the farmhouse here. In this farmhouse, her son passed away early this year.
