The new gate at Sealdah station
Kolkata: Eastern Railway on Thursday inaugurated a “Central Gate” at Sealdah station for faster access to mail and express trains. It is also planning an exclusive area for long-distance passengers to get app cabs.“The fifth gate will ease passenger movement, reducing congestion at the four other entry points, particularly for long-distance commuters,” said DRM, Sealdah, Rajeev Saxena. The dedicated passage eliminates criss-cross movement of passengers, minimizing congestion and helping those carrying heavy luggage.“Those boarding mail or express trains from platforms 11–14 can use the Central Gate,” an official said.Sealdah division is exploring the development of an app-cab boarding point near the gate and a modern toilet complex.
