Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) national president Sunetra Pawar on Thursday delivered her strongest political message yet, warning party leaders against “unnecessary interference” and indicating that the organisation would not hesitate to take tough decisions in the interest of the party.
Addressing the NCP’s 27th foundation day function in Mumbai, Pawar struck a firm tone as she sought to assert her authority over the party and send a clear signal to both leaders and party workers that discipline would be non-negotiable going forward.
Without naming any individual, Pawar said she had so far accommodated and understood everyone within the party but cautioned that any future actions detrimental to the organisation would be closely examined. “Whatever has happened in the party till now, I have understood and accommodated everyone. But if there is any unnecessary interference in the future, it will certainly be taken into consideration,” she said.

She invoked the leadership style of late NCP leader Ajit Pawar, saying that decisions similar to those taken by him in the interest of the party would continue to be made, even if they appeared harsh.
“Party interest will be given the highest priority. The kind of difficult decisions Dada took for the organisation will continue to be taken. It may not come naturally to me, but I will strive to follow that path,” she said.
Pawar also issued a warning against actions that could damage the party’s public image. “Any defamation of the NCP is a defamation of all of us. I hope the situation does not arise where I am forced to take a strict stand,” she said, urging leaders and office-bearers to exercise restraint.
At the same time, she sought to reassure the party cadre, stating that loyalty, commitment and hard work would not go unnoticed. She announced that appointments to various state corporations and boards would be made soon and said party loyalty and contribution would be key criteria in those decisions.
In a message aimed at grassroots workers, Pawar said while the party would accommodate leaders who had joined from outside, it would ensure that long-serving workers were not sidelined. The balancing act between accommodating new entrants and rewarding loyal cadre, she indicated, would define the next phase of the party’s organisational expansion.
