England has announced its squad for its upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan, the first series in Joe Root’s second stint as Test captain.
The first Test of the series will begin on August 19 at Headingley.
Jacob Bethell will miss the series with a knee injury that has kept him out of The Hundred, and Jordan Cox — who debuted in the last series against New Zealand — will fill the role in his absence.
There are returns for Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence, with the latter likely to fill the all-rounder role vacated by the retiring Ben Stokes.
On the bowling front, Shoaib Bashir retains his place in the squad while there are recalls for Sam Cook (who has played only one Test) and Brydon Carse (whose last appearance was during the Ashes).
There is no place in the squad for either Rehan Ahmed or Sam Curran.
