An electrician died after falling nearly 30 feet while repairing a ceiling light at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur on Thursday, police said. The incident occurred at around 11 am near boarding gates 7 and 8 on the first floor of the airport terminal.
According to police and airport authorities, the victim, Kuber Chand Sahu (28), was carrying out repair work beneath a false ceiling in the Security Hold Area (SHA) when he suddenly felt dizzy and unconscious due to extreme heat. He then fell from the height of the false ceiling while repairing the light.
Airport authorities said maintenance and false ceiling repair work was underway at the time of the incident.
After receiving information about the fall, airport management and officials immediately launched rescue and relief operations. The injured worker was given first aid and shifted in the airport ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, doctors declared Sahu brought dead during medical examination and treatment at the hospital. Police said he sustained serious head injuries in the fall.
A police team reached the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation into the incident.
In an official statement, the Raipur airport authority said the matter has been informed to the police administration and other competent authorities, and further legal procedures are being carried out as per norms.
The airport management has also initiated an inquiry into the incident and said coordination is being maintained with the concerned contractor agency to provide all possible assistance and support to the deceased worker’s family.
According to family members, Sahu had been working as an electrician at the airport under a contractor for the past five to six months.
