T’puram: District-level monitoring committee on human-wildlife conflict convened at collectorate on Saturday to review measures aimed at reducing human-animal conflicts and ensuring public safety in vulnerable areas.The meeting decided to ensure that Janajagratha Samithi (public awareness committee) meetings are held at regular intervals in panchayats bordering forest areas. To improve coordination between local bodies and forest department, liaison officers from department will be appointed in each of these panchayats.As part of efforts to curb violations related to use of firearms and prevent other illegal activities, updated lists of empanelled shooters within panchayat limits will be urgently forwarded to respective forest range offices.

The committee also decided to clear roadside vegetation to improve visibility and discourage movement of wild animals into populated areas. Local self-govt institutions may undertake the work in coordination with Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The meeting further resolved to expedite the construction of solar fencing and elephant-proof trenches to prevent wild animals from straying into human settlements.To speed up compensation procedures for damages caused to houses and agricultural land in wildlife attacks, the meeting directed that services of engineers from LSGD be utilized for carrying out valuation assessments promptly.Devpt panel reviews key infra projectsA meeting of district development committee, chaired by additional district magistrate A Nisa at collectorate conference hall, reviewed progress of several major infrastructure and development projects across the district.Among the projects reviewed were outer ring road, restoration of deteriorated Thennoor bridge in Vamanapuram constituency, and shifting of electricity poles for construction of approach road to Venjaramoodu flyover.The committee also discussed the commencement of inpatient services at Sreekaryam Ayurveda Hospital, completion of Chandavila–Kattayikonam water pipeline project, establishment of the Veli Railway Bus Terminal, the bridge tourism project in Parassala constituency, development initiatives for Scheduled Tribe communities in Amboori, construction of Ottasekharamangalam substation, and the proposed construction of new concrete bridges at Idayar and Mangattukadavu in Nemom constituency.MLAs C K Hareendran and V Muraleedharan, deputy district planning officer Beena M, MPs and MLAs, and officials from various departments participated in the meeting.
