National theatre festival on July 15: The department of art and culture, in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, will stage two plays on July 15 as part of the nationwide National Theatre Festival marking Mahakavi Kalidasa Jayanti and 150 years of Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram – Desh Raag will be performed at Kala Academy, Panaji, and Vande Mataram – Veer Dharam at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda, at 6.30pm.Siddharth Gad elected Tivre-Orgao sarpanch: Siddharth Gurudas Gad was elected sarpanch of the Tivre-Orgao panchayat, defeating his rival 6-3 in the nine-member body. He succeeds Aparna Amonkar, who resigned in mid-June, becoming the village’s third consecutive sarpanch after Jayesh Naik and Amonkar. Gad said tackling the village’s garbage management will be his priority, with nearly two tonnes of waste generated daily.Public donations help school buy new bus: Shree Nirakar Vidyalaya at Mashem, Canacona, celebrated the purchase of a new school bus after its previous bus was destroyed in a fire on Jan 1.
