Delhi Police intensifies action against wrong-side driving

New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police registered 1,170 FIRs, impounded 1,179 vehicles and issued 12,568 challans during a two-day special enforcement drive against wrong-side driving conducted across the capital on May 22 and 23.The crackdown was carried out on major roads, intersections, highways, vulnerable stretches and accident-prone locations across the city.“Wrong-side driving has emerged as a major cause of disorder on city roads and often leads to head-on collisions, fatal accidents and disruption of traffic flow,” additional commissioner of police (traffic) Vijayanta Goyal Arya said.Police said strict legal action, including the registration of criminal cases, the impounding of vehicles and prosecution, was initiated against violators found driving on the wrong side of the road.The traffic police appealed to all motorists, including drivers of private vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, e-rickshaws, delivery vehicles and public transport vehicles, to follow designated carriageways and lawful routes.Senior traffic officials also warned commuters against taking unlawful shortcuts by driving against traffic.
