A job seeker has shared how an employment offer was withdrawn on the same day it was made, leaving them confused and heartbroken. In a Reddit post, the person said they only wanted time to carefully read the offer letter before signing it, but the company suddenly changed its decision. The post has sparked a discussion online, with many people saying the employer’s actions were a warning sign rather than the applicant’s mistake.

The post, shared on Reddit, was titled, “Got a job offer, then it was withdrawn the same day.” The user explained that they had successfully cleared the final interview and were excited to receive the offer before things took an unexpected turn.

The Offer Was Withdrawn

In the post, the Reddit user said they were offered the job after clearing the final round of interviews. However, instead of signing the offer letter immediately, they asked the hiring manager if they could take it home and read it carefully before accepting it.

The user explained that they had made the mistake of not reading a contract properly in a previous job and did not want to repeat it.

“I was offered an employment offer after passing the final interview. I asked the hiring manager if I can bring the offer letter at home to read it carefully because I had this experience in my previous job where I didn’t read the contract thoroughly that I regretted.”

According to the user, the hiring manager agreed to the request and even said he would send answers to some questions that could not be addressed at the time. But later that same day, everything changed.

The user wrote, “But on the same day, he messaged me saying they’ll be withdrawing the employment offer. I begged them to reconsider but still they said that their decision is final.”

The Redditor said they were left devastated by the experience. “I cried so hard knowing I lost an opportunity for just being meticulous to an offer. I’m still so broken hearted that my self esteem is declining, I can’t even find a job.”

The user added that they later noticed the company had reposted the job opening and even messaged them to express interest again, but never received a reply. “I don’t know what went wrong, and I’m still blaming myself to this day.”

Reddit Users Back The Applicant

Many Reddit users felt the applicant had done the right thing by asking for time to review the offer letter.

A person commented, “Sounds dodgy. They knew you would find something wrong and would question it or negotiate so they bailed out. I agree with others you dodged a bullet.”

Another wrote, “Do not blame yourself. This is 100% on them. You did the right thing and continue to do this. A company who isn’t shitty will understand. 100%.”

An individual said, “I think you were absolutely right to ask to read it over but I also think you over explained and made yourself seem difficult to work with in their eyes. Always avoid criticizing your previous employers even if they deserve it.”

Another commented, “That just tells me that you were right to ask for time to read it over thoroughly. There was probably something really sketchy in there.”

One user added, “If you are not allowed to read through a sucking contract, then they are only looking for droid zombies who never ask questions just blindly follow orders. You dogded a bullet.”

Another person wrote, “You didn’t lose any kind of opportunity. A company that does things correctly doesn’t operate in this manner.”

Job seekers can protect themselves by understanding that companies may withdraw offers even after they are extended. One candidate asked for time to review an offer letter and had it withdrawn the same day. Another lost an offer an hour before joining.
