Pune: The Pune crime branch arrested a history-sheeter and seized 3kg of mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 5.79 crore from him in the early hours of Wednesday.The accused has been identified as Prashant Sawant (38) of Lohegaon. The crime branch’s anti-narcotics cell, led by senior police inspector Trupti Sonawane, laid a trap near Katraj Chowk and apprehended Sawant. A case has been registered against him with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police.An officer said the police received a tip-off that a man carrying drugs would arrive at Katraj Chowk in the early hours of Wednesday. “We laid a trap and took him into custody. We found 3kg of MD in his bag,” the officer said.The seized drugs were valued at Rs 5.79 crore. “We are interrogating Sawant to trace the source of the contraband,” he added.
