Mohali: Residents of Saneta village have raised alarms over an acute drinking water crisis, alleging that broken drainage networks are leaking into the water supply, threatening public health, and stoking fears of a major diarrhoea outbreak.The issue was brought to light during a public outreach visit by former Mohali municipal corporation deputy mayor and Congress functionary Kuljit Singh Bedi, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.Village residents revealed that the entire population relies on a single tubewell, which is entirely insufficient. The resultant low water pressure means many households receive inadequate volume, a problem that turns critical in multi-storey homes where the supply fails to reach the upper floors.Despite the village’s strategic location along the Mohali highway near the city, residents stressed that basic sanitation and civic amenities remain heavily neglected.Emphasising the impact on daily life, villager Charanjit Panch said, “We are facing a severe shortage of clean drinking water. Many houses do not receive adequate supply, and damaged drains are causing contamination of drinking water.”Addressing the gathering, Bedi called it unfortunate that residents of such a prominent village were still denied basic necessities. Promising political intervention, Bedi said, “If the Congress forms the govt, the issues of Saneta and other villages in the area would be taken up on a priority basis.” He committed to upgrading the local sewage system, expanding the water pipeline network, and improving educational infrastructure to match urban standards.Attendees, including local residents Ram Asra, Roshan Lal, advocate Saurav Kumar, Chaudhary Megh Raj, and Chaudhary Satpal, collectively demanded immediate administrative intervention.
