Karnataka Govt Transition: As Karnataka prepares for a formal leadership transition following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation, the Congress will convene the crucial Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 30, to new Chief Minister will be elected.
Senior Congress leader and former minister HK Patil told news agency ANI on Friday that the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting will be held on May 30 at 4 pm.
All Congress MLAs have been asked to attend the meeting, where Deputy Chief MInister in the outgoing Karnataka cabinet, DK Shivakumar, is likely to be elected the next CLP leader, paving the way for his swearing-in as Chief Minister.
While speaking to the news agency amid the ongoing political transition in Karnataka, Patil said he was not seeking any position in the new setup.
“I am not an aspirant for anything. My services are always at the suggestion of the Congress high command,” he said when asked whether he was interested in becoming KPCC president, minister or deputy chief minister.

Patil further said that Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister has strengthened the party, asserting that the veteran leader is leading the transition process and discussions around the new government.
“It is Siddaramaiah who is taking the lead for all changes and new developments. He is taking leadership,” Patil said.
On Siddaramaiah’s future role, Patil said the veteran leader was not interested in moving to national politics. Patil said that Siddaramaiah had declined a Rajya Sabha berth offered by the Congress leadership as he wished to remain active in state politics.
“He is not willing for central politics. As of today, that question is ruled out. But in the Congress party and in the state, there will be a position carved out for him,” Patil said.
Leadership Transition In Karnataka
The long-running power struggle inside the Karnataka Congress has finally reached its decisive moment. After months of speculation, denials and carefully choreographed public unity, Siddaramaiah has stepped down as chief minister, paving the way for his deputy, DK Shivakumar, to take over.
Siddaramaiah resigned on Thursday, submitting his resignation to the Governor’s Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan following discussions with the Congress high command amid a likely leadership change in the state. His resignation was accepted by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot a day later, on Friday.
The Congress veteran said he would continue to remain active in Karnataka politics and declined the party leadership’s suggestion to move to the Rajya Sabha.
