A cop and a criminal, tied together with a rope. The policeman is escorting the prisoner back from a hospital visit when the accused suddenly turns on him with a sharp weapon. Within seconds, the situation spirals into a chaotic street fight straight out of a Bollywood action film, ending with a prisoner dead and a wounded cop battling for his life.
Dramatic CCTV footage from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur has captured the chilling sequence of events that unfolded on Saturday, when an undertrial prisoner allegedly attacked a police constable during a hospital visit and attempted to flee custody.
The video, now widely circulating on social media, shows the prisoner, identified as Naseeb Singh, grappling violently with Senior Constable Jasdeep Singh in the middle of a narrow lane. Still tied together with a rope, the two can be seen struggling, collapsing onto the road and continuing the fight.

According to police, the confrontation initially broke out inside the e-rickshaw transporting the inmates before spilling onto the street outside.
Senior police officer Sandeep Kumar Malik said the incident took place around 1.30 pm on Saturday when four police personnel escorted three inmates from Central Jail, Hoshiarpur, to the Civil Hospital for routine medical examination ahead of their court appearance.
PRISONER WAS A MURDER ACCUSED
One of the inmates, Naseeb Singh, was facing seven criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and offences under the NDPS Act, police said.
After the medical examination, the police team started taking the inmates back to jail when Naseeb Singh allegedly attempted to escape despite being handcuffed.
Police said Senior Constable Jasdeep Singh, who suffers from asthma, was accompanying the accused in the e-rickshaw when the prisoner allegedly attacked him repeatedly with a sharp-edged weapon.
During the tussle, Naseeb Singh also allegedly tried multiple times to snatch the constable’s service revolver. CCTV visuals show both men falling to the ground as the violent struggle continued.
SHOTS FIRED DURING FIGHT
Officials said the prisoner was eventually hit by a bullet fired during the confrontation. “A police personnel was escorting inmate Naseeb Singh when he suddenly attacked the constable with a sharp weapon. During the struggle, shots were fired from the service revolver and the accused sustained bullet injuries,” SSP Malik said.
Naseeb Singh died from the gunshot wound, while constable Jasdeep Singh suffered injuries to his face, hands and legs. Police said he is undergoing treatment and is now out of danger.
The body of the deceased prisoner has been kept in the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
SIT TO PROBE INCIDENT
Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. Investigators are trying to determine how the inmate managed to access a sharp-edged weapon despite being in custody. Police are examining whether the weapon was picked up during transit or whether the prisoner received outside assistance.
SSP Malik said prisoners are routinely taken for medical examinations before being produced in court and that Saturday’s hospital visit was part of standard procedure.
