CHENNAI/TIRUCHI: Thanjavur police on Tuesday registered a case against former deputy chief minister and MLA Udayanidhi Stalin following a complaint that he made derogatory remarks about women during a protest held in Thanjavur on Monday.The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by the women’s wing organiser of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Police said an investigation was under way.Following the registration of the case and the controversy over the speech, security was tightened outside Udayanidhi’s residence at Neelankarai in Chennai.Police deployed additional personnel in the area as a precautionary measure.Sources said Udayanidhi remained in Thanjavur on Tuesday.The remarks also triggered political reactions, with state ministers Anand, Raj Mohan, Keerthana and Venkataraman criticising the speech.Anand appealed to TVK members to participate in statewide protests organised by the party on Tuesday condemning Udayanidhi’s remarks.Police said the contents of the speech and other evidence submitted with the complaint would be examined as part of the investigation.Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry.
