Chennai: Stating that city corporation constructed a bus stand completely blocking the entrance to his land parcel, a Kolathur resident has petitioned the civic authorities. He said the bus stand made it impossible for him to construct a house on his land.N V Charry Babu, who owns the plot in Poompuhar Nagar, said the authorities claimed that the shelter was constructed in 2019 when the land was registered in another person’s name. “The property was transferred to my name in 2023. Initially, we assumed it was a temporary structure and had no immediate plans to build a house on the plot. However, when we decided to start construction in Dec 2025, the shelter became a major obstruction. We raised a complaint with GCC, but there has been no proper response,” he said.“When I approached zonal-level officials, they gave a lethargic response, stating that a small space had been left for entry into the property and that I should make use of it,” he added.Though GCC had constructed the bus shelter, officials have now issued what the landowner describes as a mere formality letter, stating that the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) must provide a no-objection certificate before the structure can be relocated.Venugopal, an advocate, said GCC, having built the shelter and acknowledged that it obstructs the landowner’s proposed construction, should directly initiate the relocation process.Despite multiple attempts by TOI, GCC officials were unavailable for comment.
