Kalaburagi: An assistant public prosecutor (APP) attached to the 5th JMFC Court in Kalaburagi was caught in a Lokayukta trap on Friday while allegedly accepting a bribe near the court complex. He was arrested for demanding cash and expensive gifts in return for filing a compromise petition in court.The accused has been identified as Santosh Kumar Lokande, an APP at the Kalaburagi 5th JMFC court.According to Lokayukta officials, the complainant, Rahul, a resident of Hyderabad, needed to file a compromise petition in connection with a court case. Lokande allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 in cash and a large quantity of gifts to process the petition.The list of items allegedly sought included nine sarees, four shirts, four pairs of branded jeans, a pair of shoes, four women’s outfits and six pairs of women’s sandals, apart from the cash demand.Acting on a complaint, Lokayukta inspector Arun Kumar and his team laid a trap and caught Lokande red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant near the court complex. He was taken into custody and further investigation is under way.
