A young engineering graduate has shared how he went from growing up in a financially struggling family to securing a Rs 33 lakh CTC job at PhonePe. His journey included studying with limited resources, dealing with financial pressure and working hard to build skills that were initially missing.
For him, the placement meant much more than getting a well-paying job. “Coming from the slums, this wasn’t just a placement; it was breaking a generational cycle,” he wrote.
His Journey Started With Limited Resources
The graduate said his parents worked hard but were not paid well. With help from relatives, loans and an EWS scholarship, he was able to attend a state-level engineering college. He had scored 96 percentile in JEE but had to consider his family’s financial situation while choosing a college.
College also made him more aware of the differences between his life and that of some of his classmates. He said many of his peers came from middle-class families and had access to experiences and opportunities that were new to him.
“Most of my peers came from stable middle class families,” he wrote. He said the difference did not make him angry but pushed him to work harder. “It didn’t make me bitter but it stung, quietly,” the post read. “Instead of letting that feeling pull me down, I took it as a challenge.”
He Focused On Academics But Found Another Gap
The student maintained a 9.63 CGPA from his first year through graduation. However, he realised that his coding and development skills were not at the same level as his academic performance.
His first hackathon made that clear to him. “It humbled me,” he wrote. Instead of giving up, he worked on his weak areas and teamed up with others who could help him learn.
His team eventually won four hackathons. He also took part in the Smart India Hackathon. Although his team did not win, the experience remained special for him and marked the first time he travelled by flight.
His Placement Goal Eventually Became Much Bigger
The student said his original aim was simply to get a decent job after college. That changed as he gained more skills and experience.
He eventually received a Rs 33 lakh CTC offer from PhonePe. For him, the achievement was closely linked to his family’s struggles and his desire to create a different future.
“I’m not sharing this to flex, but in the hope that someone out there, going through a tough phase, finds a little hope in this post,” he wrote.
Internet Users Praised His Achievement
The story received supportive reactions from users who saw his journey as an example of how education and hard work can open new opportunities.
A user wrote, “With extreme hard work, generational hierarchy can be dodged And this is a great example.”
Another commented, “That clg aint no “decent” if it gets 33 lpa wala packages companies….its mych more than decent.” A person simply reacted, “Crazy.”
