A dramatic public confrontation in Bihar’s Hajipur has triggered widespread discussion after a BPSC-appointed teacher, Gunjan Kumari, was seen engaged in a heated argument with police officers who intervened following allegations of an extra-marital affair. The incident unfolded after Gunjan’s husband, Aman Kumar, alerted police, claiming he had caught his wife and her alleged lover together in a compromising situation at a rented accommodation in Lichchavi Nagar.
Videos from the scene show a chaotic roadside confrontation involving Gunjan, her husband, police personnel and local residents.
As tempers flared, a police officer attempted to calm the situation and warned the teacher against creating a law-and-order problem.
The officer can be heard saying, “Do not shout excessively; if you attempt to disrupt law and order, we will teach you a lesson you won’t forget”.
Gunjan responded defiantly, saying, “No one can teach me a lesson”. The sharp exchange, recorded in full public view, has since become a major talking point across the district.
WHAT IS THE MATTER?
The controversy centres around allegations made by Aman Kumar, a resident of Bidupur in Bihar’s Vaishali district.
Aman claims that he made significant sacrifices to help his wife achieve her dream of becoming a teacher.
According to him, when the couple married in 2013, Gunjan had completed only her intermediate education but aspired to pursue higher studies and secure a government job.
Aman alleges that despite financial hardships, he supported her education and, in 2022, sold a large portion of his ancestral land to fund her graduation, B.Ed. studies and preparation for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teacher recruitment examination.
His efforts, he says, eventually paid off when Gunjan cleared the BPSC TRE-02 examination and was appointed as a teacher for Classes 6 to 8.
TWIST IN THE TALE
However, Aman claims their relationship began deteriorating after her selection.
He alleges that during a training programme in Supaul district, Gunjan grew close to Prem Prakash, whom he describes as her college friend.
According to Aman, the friendship gradually developed into a romantic relationship and the two continued meeting frequently.
The husband further alleges that Gunjan had been living separately from him for nearly a year in a rented house in Hajipur’s Lichchavi Nagar area.
He claims that Prem Prakash regularly visited the residence. Acting on information about his presence there, Aman says he reached the house on May 23 and found the two together, prompting him to call the police.
SON TESTIFIES AGAINST GUNJAN KUMARI
The controversy deepened after the couple’s 10-year-old son also made allegations against his mother.
The child claimed that “Prem Prakash Uncle” frequently visited their home and that he was instructed to identify him as a maternal uncle whenever anyone asked questions.
He further alleged that he was sent away whenever the visitor arrived and was punished when he threatened to inform his father.
At present, the allegations remain claims made by Aman Kumar and his son, and no official findings have been confirmed.
The public altercation, however, has thrust the family dispute into the spotlight, with police expected to examine the matter further as discussions continue over the sensational case that has captivated Hajipur and beyond.
